Who we are

Lost Then Found is a personal project operating at lostthenfound.dog. It is not a registered company. For the purposes of UK GDPR, the data controller is the individual operating this service. If you have any questions about your data, contact us at hello@lostthenfound.dog.

What data we collect and why

We only collect what we actually need. Here's what that is and what we use it for.

When you register as a dog owner:

• Your name and email address - to create and manage your account
• Your phone number - to send you SMS notifications when your dog's tag is scanned
• Your dog's profile information (name, breed, photo, medical notes, etc.) - shown to finders when they tap the tag
• Your postage address - to send you the physical tag, then deleted once dispatched

When a finder taps a tag:

• The GPS coordinates of their device at the time of the scan - passed to you via SMS notification, not stored long-term
• The date and time of the scan - logged against your tag for your records

If you join the waitlist:

• Your email address - to notify you when we launch, once
• Your town or city - to understand where demand is, never shared or published
• Whether you're a dog owner or a vet/pet shop partner - so we can send relevant information at launch

What we don't do with your data

• We don't sell it
• We don't share it with third parties for marketing purposes
• We don't show your phone number to finders - ever
• We don't use it to send you anything other than service-related notifications you've opted into
• We don't run advertising on this site and no advertiser has access to any data

Third-party services we use

We use a small number of external services to make the site work. They process data only on our behalf and under our instruction.

• Brevo - sends transactional emails (tag scanned, account confirmation, etc.) and SMS notifications. Your email and phone number are passed to Brevo for delivery only. Brevo is GDPR compliant and operates under a data processing agreement.
• Our hosting provider - the site and its database are hosted on servers in the UK or EU. No data is stored in the US or outside the UK/EU.

That's it. No analytics platform, no advertising network, no tracking pixels.

How long we keep your data

• Your account and dog profile - kept for as long as your account is active
• Waitlist entries - deleted once we've sent the launch notification
• Postage addresses - deleted once your tag has been dispatched
• Scan logs - kept for 12 months then deleted

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct any inaccurate data
• Ask us to delete your data entirely - we'll remove your account, your dog's profile, and all associated records
• Object to or restrict how we process your data
• Withdraw consent for notifications at any time

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@lostthenfound.dog. We'll respond within 30 days.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. Nothing else. No tracking cookies, no third-party cookies, no cookie banner needed.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes we'll update the date at the top of this page and, if the changes affect you significantly, email registered users to let them know.
